Aromatherapy is one of the holistic healing therapies, considered as a complementary therapy used for thousands of years by ancient cultures in India, China and Egypt. Natural plant extracts (flowers, fruits, leaves etc.) are used in preparing Essential oils, Hydrosols, infusions, decoctions, tinctures, infused oils which are used in holistic approach. They can enhance an individual with physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. Currently this therapy is gaining more recognition in Science and medicine all around the world.
The phytochemical components such as terpenes, phenols, acids, esters and lactones contribute to the notes of the Essential oils. The synergy when obtained with great knowledge and understanding contribute towards the best effects. The effects of the Aromatic compounds mostly work through sense of smell and skin absorption. Some of the mostly used Essential oils are Lavender, Lemon, Peppermint, Rose, Tea tree, Ginger, Eucalyptus, Clary sage, Lemongrass, Ylang Ylang, Vetiver, Fennel, Rosemary and Cypress.
Essential oils can be applied in variety of methods such as diffusers, vaporizers, massage therapy, steam inhalation, ingestion, gargles and mouth washes, suppositories and topical application like creams, ointments, balms, hair care etc.
Essential oils have the potentials to treat conditions such as Acne, Psoriasis, Eczema, Infections, Burns, wounds, sciatica, upper respiratory tract infections, constipation, indigestion, diarrhea, bloating, colic, influenza, hay fever, asthma, bronchitis, dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea, post menopause syndrome, cystitis, diabetes, headaches, migraine, anxiety, stress, insomnia, cellulitis, alopecia, erectile dysfunctions etc. One must seek the advice of a doctor or aroma therapist before deciding on the Essential oils suitable for them because there are some Essentials that should be taken under the supervision of a professional.
Aromatherapy can be used even in our day today lives with simple applications which would brighten up our physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing and keep us refreshed all day long. We can use Essential oils mixed with our daily topical applications- skin care, hair care and bathing products, diffusers and vaporizers at home and working spaces and even while travelling. It’s one
of the best comparative therapies in the world anyone can experience and a unique gift experience of delivering love and care for loved ones along with nature’s bliss.
